Here’s How To Protect Your Dog’s Paws On A Hot Summer Day

Have you ever seen a dog walking on hot cement on a sweltering summer day and thought, I wonder if that hurts them? Well, now we know that it does. Apparently, it hurts like hell and looks even worse!

But there are things you can do to keep your pup happy and safe. According to theHumane Society of the United States,

Asphalt gets very hot and can burn your pet’s paws, so walk your dog on the grass if possible.

And asMoon Valley Canine Trainingsuggests, there’s a simple test all dog owners can do this summer to test if the ground is safe for walking. If you can rest the back of your hand on the cement for more than 5 seconds, it’s safe for your dog’s paws. How easy is that?!

If the temperature rises suddenly and there’s no grass or shade around, run with your pup, pick them up or hail a cab that’ll accept a dog. Or be more prepared next time and pack your dog booties or dog paw wax toprotect your dog’s paw pads.

Don’t let the heat ruin your fun this summer and keep the paw-ty going.
